How to Download Netflix Movies and TV Shows on a Mac

2023-01-10 | SophiaBolton
Tip: How Do I Download Netflix Content on My Mac? This article will walk you through all of the processes required to download Netflix movies and shows on Mac.

That's right; contrary to what you may have read elsewhere on the internet, downloading Netflix content on your Mac is not available at the time of this writing. Nonetheless, there are two workarounds to explore. As you'll see below, one of these is easier to complete than the other.

How to Download Netflix Movies and TV Shows on a Mac

Netflix subscribers have had access to Netflix material on MacBooks and Mac desktops for quite some time. All you need is a web browser like Safari, Chrome, or Microsoft Edge to do so. Unfortunately, none of these choices allow you to save material to your computer for offline viewing. There is currently no Netflix app for macOS.

What is the reason for this? Given Netflix's sustained popularity, neither Apple nor Netflix have said anything. Indeed, it's as if the two firms will never agree to bring Netflix to the Apple TV app, where the iPhone manufacturer selects material based on your viewing history. (On the Apple TV set-top box, however, a Netflix app is available separately.)

Try one of the following alternatives to legally watch Netflix content you've downloaded on your Mac.

Or else, you can download Netflix videos on Mac with a good Netflix downloader.

StreamFab Netflix Downloader for Mac enables you to download Netflix movies and TV shows with full HD 1080p quality and enjoy your videos offline.

Use AirPlay on your iPhone or iPad

Apple's products have long incorporated AirPlay capability, which allows users to broadcast videos and music. AirPlay is also supported by third-party devices such as Xbox, Roku, and others. Unfortunately, it restricts the devices that may be used to watch video content over AirPlay. The Apple TV and AirPlay 2-compatible smart TVs are currently the only devices to which you can stream AirPlay video.

Because of these constraints, our initial suggestion has nothing to do with Mac. Regardless, it may be a superior long-term option. Rather than using your Mac, use your iPhone or iPad to watch Netflix video that has been downloaded (and is available offline).

Before you get started, you should know how Netflix handles downloading on mobile devices. When downloading episodes of TV shows over Wi-Fi only, it defaults to smart downloads. Only one episode of a series is downloaded at a time using smart downloads. After you've finished watching that episode, it'll be removed and replaced with a new one. When your device is connected to Wi-Fi, this happens in the background.

Turn off smart downloading if you intend to view numerous episodes of a series offline. To do so, go to the Netflix app's bottom right and tap the Downloads symbol. Toggle off Smart Downloads on the next page, then pick Smart Downloads at the top.

After you've disabled smart downloads, you may begin downloading your Netflix material by following the instructions below:

get started with downloading your Netflix content following the steps below:

  1. Open the Netflix app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Select the movie or TV show you wish to download by tapping on it.
  3. At the bottom of the screen, select the Download icon.

Download Netflix content

After downloading Netflix content to your iPhone or iPad, you can watch it by:

  • Open the Netflix app on your phone or tablet.
  • At the bottom of the screen, select the Download icon.
  • Select the material you want to see.
  • Pick a game to play.

Install Windows on a Mac

So, technically, the technique above did not meet your need to legally watch Netflix video downloaded to your Mac. Installing Windows 10 on your Mac using Apple Boot Camp or a virtualization software product like Parallels is a true solution.

Boot Camp, on the other hand, is not feasible on an Apple M1 smartphone. Except if you're willing to become a free beta tester, virtualization isn't yet ready for these next-generation devices.

However, you can do that by going to the Microsoft Store and downloading the official Netflix app after installing Windows 10 on your Mac. Shows that can be downloaded are highlighted with an icon once you connect into your account.

The Netflix client for Windows is shown running on a MacBook Pro M1 using the Parallels M1 beta in the following screenshot:

Is it possible to have too much work?

It's hard to believe there isn't an official Netflix app for macOS in 2021. You can't download Netflix content on a Mac because of this restriction – at least not easily. For the time being, there is only one solution to this problem: install Windows on a Mac via Boot Camp or virtualization.

However, perhaps the ideal approach is to abandon your Mac and instead use the Netflix app to download material to your iPad. Otherwise, keep an eye out. Netflix and Apple, hopefully, will remedy this oversight in the future.
