Polk Audio T15 Bookshelf speakers are unbeatable value. These are a great budget speaker pair. However, their sound quality and performance make them a viable option for your main speakers for many years. They aren’t going to win any sound quality awards. This is especially true when they’re compared against Klipsch and Yamaha. You probably don't expect peak performance for only $100.
These Polk speakers were part of our home theater setup for about one week. We were very pleased with the quality and sound that they produced. These speakers have their flaws (some breakup in high volume, some mid-range muddiness), but they are a great value for the price.

We were surprised at how little these Polk speakers lost because of their simple design. The trend lately is to provide a bit of flair with your speakers—Klipsch does it with rose gold accents, and some speaker manufacturers even put time into what the enclosures look like without the mesh grille covering. They are boring.
They are large enclosures at 10.5 inches high and 6.5 inches in width. They were very good in sound quality, however they proved bulky when we tried to place them inside our entertainment center. Though, for that height and width, we were surprised to see them at just seven-and-a-quarter inches deep—skinny considering the rest of the size.
They were too heavy to be fit into the entertainment centre.
T15 passive speakers are only available in a brushed-black finish. Everything is made of black from the speaker grille to the tweeter and matching driver. Only the Polk logo, a silver metallic Polk logo at the bottom of the unit's front is a contrast.
We would normally consider this a positive thing. The speakers are placed in neutral locations within a home theatre setup. This design works well for people who prefer them to blend in with the movie soundtrack. We were not impressed by the cool features and flashy wood tones of this design.

It's unclear what the speakers actually are from after looking through Polk's specifications and descriptions online. It feels like they are made of wood and composite. However, we don't know what the actual composition of these speakers is. They feel very substantial. They are composed of a main woofer made of mineral-filled polymer and composite main woofer, which does the bulk of sound projection. A tweeter is made of silk polymer composite 0.75 inch. The drivers are made from the same materials, however, Polk has softened the tweeter.
These two components are important in boosting the sound, as we will discuss below. However, it is not clear if the enclosure does much. The enclosure has a front-mounted plastic bass port. This helps project some low-end. Fine mesh grille is used on the front. It arches slightly against enclosures and sits a little higher than the rest. It provides a little buffer between the speaker cones, and unintentional elbows or knees while you are carrying them. This is a huge help in durability. These enclosures feel and look substantial. However, they do not seem to provide sound support as much.

Polk is an intriguing brand, which sits in the middle segment of the consumer-audio space. The brand isn't considered top-tier or high-mid-tier. Polk products are affordable for most people. The brand also strives for quality at a reasonable price. The T15 balances this nicely, we found. These bookshelf speakers were put through their paces, and we hooked them up to our home movie receiver along with a subwoofer. We fired up action movies, top 40 radio, and everything in between, and we were surprised at just how nice they sounded—up to a limit.
The T15 covers 45Hz-24kHz of the human hearing spectrum. This is quite substantial when you compare it to similar-priced bookshelf speakers. These speakers are comparable to other competitors at 8 ohms with 89 decibels of sensitiveness. They can even seem a little louder than others. Although they can handle 100W, we find them better suited to lower wattages. Polk recommends a wattage of 20W for the lowest wattage.
They are one of the best-rounded speakers that we have tested. That is both good and bad. The T15 can provide everything that you need, while at the same time, it doesn't really do anything well. The T15 has a lot of bass, fullness and depth but not as much as the premium speakers. The upper frequency range has good details, although it may feel slightly sluggish at times. The T15 may have some edge noise if you like to crank up the volume on your receiver so you can watch movies at high volumes. These speakers are great for those who want an excellent sound quality at a reasonable price.
The T15 offers everything that you need, yet they aren't great at doing any particular thing.
We were pleasantly surprised by how high-end the T15 felt when we took them out of their box. We didn't expect them to feel cheap, however, at around $100, Amazon we were not unreasonable. We were surprised by how good the sound quality of these speakers when we connected them to our computers. Speaker pairs below $100 are often tinny and muddy and don't last long. Polk T15 Bookshelf speakers are true to quality, but at a very affordable price.
Klipsch R-15M The Klipsch solution to the 5-inch driver is the R-15M speaker. They sound great, but are more expensive than the Polk T15.
Dennon SN-10:Dennon takes on this category with a wider spectrum and more loudness, for $30 less.
Micca HTML42:A smaller and more affordable pair of Micca bookshelf speakers is available for as low as the Polk T15. Although you won't get the same quality and brand value as the Polks, the Micca bookshelf speakers are still worth the money.
We were surprised at how enthusiastically we could recommend the Polk T15 bookshelf speakers. These speakers are the ideal choice for your first home sound system, as well as if you're looking to add some speakers to your existing audio system without spending too much. You can be confident in the quality of their construction and durability, as they are made by Polk.
