Logitech Z623 Review: An Cinematic ExperienceThe LogitechZ623 speakers are an outstanding set of speakers, whether you want to view movies or play games. Music lovers will not be pleased with the low quality of the speakers' high-end.
Affordable
This is a great place to watch movies
Booming bass
Highs and lows are drowned out
It is heavy and difficult to transport
Connectors for proprietary purposes
Logitech Z623 is a solid entry-level speaker that's affordable and well worth the price, particularly if you want to relax and enjoy some films. Audiophiles will find them difficult to sell if they are too loud for music.
Logitech Z623 was purchased by us so that our expert reviewer could fully test it and evaluate it. Continue reading to see our complete product review.
Logitech Z623 is a mid-range speaker that makes up the majority of standard speakers. It consists of two 200W satellites powered by a subwoofer and two 200W satellite speakers. They are loud enough to produce decently clear sound, which is not necessarily a problem. The average user will be able to enjoy the audio for movie and game purposes. However, more advanced audiophiles might find it difficult to listen to.

Logitech now has a plan for their computer speakers. Two moderately appealing satellite speakers are included that can be plugged in to a subwoofer. Logitech Z623 has a slightly larger range of speakers. The satellite speakers measure 7.7 inches high and 5.8 inches thick. Each subwoofer measures 11.2 inches tall by 12 inches.
This allows for some very powerful bass, but it makes them difficult to transport. The subwoofer weighs in at 15.4 pounds. These speakers are not the type you want to carry around.
All of the system's components are black. Each satellite speaker has THX branding at its top, which signifies that these speakers can produce serious sound quality for home theatre. It is made of a large block of plastic and wood, which has a huge hole to reveal the actual subwoofer. It doesn't vibrate too much when in use, so you could put it underneath your desk.
Ports are located on the rear of the subwoofer and include the inputs for the satellite speakers as well as power.

The Logitech Z623 can be difficult to set up because everything is large. You see, you'll have to connect each satellite speaker into the subwoofer, which sounds fine on its own, but the left speaker—with the audio controls and power button—connects to the subwoofer via a VGA connector. The right speaker can be connected via the standard 3.5mm audio connector.
Keep in mind, however that the Logitech Z623 cannot be upgraded in the future and you will most likely need to purchase a new set of speakers in case of an issue.
It means that you cannot replace a speaker if it blows out. You can also not reuse the sub at any time. This is why connectors have been set up this way.
This is why the Logitech Z623 can be controlled via the satellite speaker to the left. Keep in mind, however that the Logitech Z623 cannot be upgraded and you will need to purchase a new set of speakers in case of problems.

The subwoofer on the Z623 is absolutely massive—it has a power capacity of 130W all by itself, which is more than half of the RMS power rating (a formula used to calculate how much continuous power a speaker can handle). This means the Z623's bass is impressive, but it also means the tweeters can't keep pace.
Satellite speakers are rated at 35W. This means that the high points of your music won't be as crisp. If you listen to classical music, or other types of music that require more detail than the beat, this will be an issue.
We tested the Z623 using Tidal with the Master audio quality setting through the Audioengine D1 DDAC (digital to analog converter). The Logitech Z623 was not affected by this.
The Z623 is a great cinematic option, whether you are watching Game of Thrones or trying to catch up on all of the Marvel films.
The driving beat of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" reverberates throughout the room and you can feel it in your chest. The violin sound behind the vocals was a bit too muffled, it's a shame. This was clearly more Z623-friendly. Although the synths and piano were audible still, that menacing, slow beat was clearly at the center of attention.
Metal is another obvious choice for these speakers, so Gojira's 'The Shooting Star’ was next. The Logitech Z623s bring this track to life with their wide soundstage. With a lot of energy, the heavy guitars, kick drum, and bass come in, but the vocals are clear. This track is dominated by the lower end so it sounds amazing.
Music is generally good on the LogitechZ623, although you will not be able listen to your favourite piece of classical music, or get every nugget of Joanna Newsom's album. The Logitech Z623 speaker can be used by people who want to listen to loud metal and hip-hop tracks.
Film is the real star here, so it shouldn't surprise that these speakers are THX certified. Watching the 'Sonic the Hedgehog: and the 'Dark Phoenix' trailers was a mind-blowing experience—it legitimately felt like we were in a movie theater.
The Z623 is a great choice for movie-watching, whether you are watching Game of Thrones or trying to catch up on Marvel films. We could easily see these speakers being connected to our televisions, instead of our computers. The audio is powerful enough to fill any living space.
Logitech Z623 speakers were designed to be used for watching videos or playing video games, rather than listening to music.
Gaming is no exception to this trend. Games like The Division 2 are a great example of how gaming can be so fun when the gunfire and explosions feel right in your face. Short of the Razer Nari headset—a headset that vibrates—we haven't had a cinematic gaming experience like this in a long time.
Logitech Z623 speakers were designed to be used for watching videos or playing video games, rather than listening to music. You'll love the Logitech Z623 speakers if that is what you like. Just don't expect an audiophile experience.
The $149 MSRP price is very reasonable considering the capabilities of the LogitechZ623 from the home theatre perspective. These speakers will help you bring your favourite content to life without breaking the bank.
You can buy a similar setup to the Logitech Z623 at a lower price (including Logitech Z337) but it's hard to find an even better set for less. You could also opt for bookshelf speakers at this price, which might be the best choice for music fans.
Bookshelf speakers are a natural part of the discussion when you spend more than $100 on top-of-the-line computer speakers. If you enjoy listening to music more than watching movies, the $99 EdifierR1280T bookshelf speaker is a great alternative to Logitech Z623.
Now, these speakers aren't quite as powerful—only capable of a 42W RMS power output, but what they lack in power they make up for in detail. They won't rock the house, but they will make your music sound better thanks to their 13mm tweeters, 106mm drivers, and other speakers.
The best option for you will depend on your needs. Do you need a set of neutral speakers to reveal every detail of your music or a pair that can be used as a subwoofer? The Edifier 1280T is the best choice. Are you looking for a cinematic experience while watching your favourite movies? Logitech Z623 is your best choice.
Logitech Z623 is well worth the admission price, particularly if you enjoy watching blockbuster movies and the most recent AAA games. Satellite speakers provide cinematic sound and clear audio that can be used to view movies. Although they aren't the best in music listening, it's still a great value for money.
