Pet owners should be careful about how they spend their time with their pets. Working requires you to check your pets' health and well-being before leaving. For pet owners who can't stay away from their pets for long periods of time, the Play 2 was created. The Play 2 is a high-quality pet camera that features an improved field of vision and Alexa functionality.

It blends well with other electronic home appliances thanks to its subtle design. Although the reflective black plastic at the front hides fingerprints well, the matte black plastic on its top can easily be smudged. If someone was not close enough to see the words 'Petcube', they wouldn't know this camera is a sign that you are pet-obsessed. Its small footprint and wide field-of-view make it easy to fit almost anywhere, without becoming intrusive.

Petcube Play 2's setup is simple enough that it does not even come with a manual. You can create an account on the Petcube App and then add profiles to your pet. This includes photos, names and dates. You can pair the Play 2 with your smartphone and connect it to Wi Fi using the app. Although the laser does not require setup, it is possible to calibrate it if needed. My laser worked perfectly with the default calibration.

The Play 2 was tested in my Texas house, which is constantly lit by the sun. Like its predecessor, the Petcube Play 2 records at 1080p. The picture quality in daylight is excellent. I can see every hair on my cat's head. Although it is sometimes a little grainy, there aren't many pet cameras that do a better job. A cam with 4K resolution won't be affordable even for the most wealthy pet owners. Even though pets don't usually do much at night time, the laser enabled me to get my pet to test the night vision. Although the recording quality is better at night, it's still quite good. However, it looks a little less sharp than in daytime.
The picture quality in daylight is amazing. I can see every hair on my cat's head.
In the end, pet cameras are not chosen solely for their video quality. While cute videos can be nice, your pet will not find any more entertainment than barking or sleeping at their neighbors if they don't have something to motivate them.
Petcube's Play 2 includes an interactive laser that is specifically designed for this purpose. This interactive laser was a great idea. My cat was already asleep on the couch when I tried it. To get her attention I used a little noise and activated the laser. Although the laser moves in a jumpy manner across the floor, it didn't appear to be causing any discomfort for her. Petcube Play 2 automatically activates the laser so your pet can play while you are away. The laser worked well in all locations. However, it was not as good near large windows. Because the Class 2 laser can't be used in bright sunlight, it isn't nearly as powerful as handheld laser pointers. When the laser is being used in an automatic mode, this is a safety precaution to prevent it from possibly injuring you or your pet's eye. My pets could see the laser as long as it was only 5 feet from any window.
Petcube Play 2 automatically starts the laser for your pet while you are away.
Play 2 also added Alexa compatibility, which made it the first Alexa device that I owned. It was then that I began to search for ways to use Alexa to help my pets. Alexa was instructed to listen to an audiobook, while I worked in my spare bedroom. My dog, a German Shepherd who is overprotective, barks at strangers and neighbors as they pass my house.
He slept peacefully for many hours thanks to the white noise from an audiobook. The audio quality could be a bit sluggish when using two-way audio for communication with my animals, but that was due to latency. The Play 2 was crystal clear. The Play 2 is a great Alexa device.
Instead of relying on the possibility that your pet might be present in the same space as your device, you can use the Play 2 to chime when your pet is in view with the app. The two-way audio and chimes should also be enough to grab their attention. Both animals recognized me and were eager to check out my Play 2 after I called. My pets started to come closer to the Play 2 every time it chimed after a few practice sessions.

The Petcube Play 2 is an expensive pet cam. Although there are some more costly pet cameras on the market than others, not all of them will be as expensive. A security camera is a cheaper option if you only need a camera that can monitor your pet and make sure that nobody has broken into it. An automatic laser toy could be added for $200. The Play 2 can be expensive, but it is worth the cost if you want to buy a pet gift or for yourself.
The Play 2 can be expensive, but it is worth the cost if you want to get a present for your pet or yourself.
While the Petcube Play 2 offers a lot, there's an option that will save you a lot. The Pawbo Life Wi-Fi Camera is priced at $150 and includes the most important features, including a laser for cats, as well as the treat dispenser. To keep the price down, clips can be recorded at 720p with no night vision. The Pawbo can be used to provide treats for pets and some playtime during work hours. Pets are not concerned about quality of the pictures. If you need to see night vision or share clips, the Petcube Play 2 is a bit more expensive.
